Best Android mirroring for macOS
JH Mirror is the best Android mirroring app for macOS when you want the phone in a Mac window over Wi‑Fi, with the Mac keyboard and trackpad and the phone's sound. It is free. The mirror is built on scrcpy.
What good Android mirroring on a Mac includes
Mirroring is more than a picture of the phone. You should be able to type, click, hear the phone, and put the phone in a bag while the window stays open. JH Mirror does that from the menu bar.
- The screen streams over Wi‑Fi in real time.
- Keyboard and trackpad control the phone. ⌘V in the phone window pastes Mac text into the phone.
- Sound plays through the Mac.
- A side strip opens clipboard, files, media and apps. ⌘1 phone, ⌘2 media, ⌘3 files.
- Pocket mode, on Android 14 and newer, turns the phone screen off and locks its touchscreen while you keep using it from the Mac. Your PIN and lock settings stay as they are.
Wi‑Fi, not a cable you leave plugged in
On Android 11 or newer, both devices stay on the same Wi‑Fi. Turn on Developer options, switch on Wireless debugging, and scan the QR code. A six-digit code works too. JH Mirror then installs its small phone app and opens the screen.
If the phone restarts, Android often turns Wireless debugging off. JH Mirror asks the phone to switch it back on over the encrypted channel and reconnects by itself, usually in about 20 seconds. You do not pair again.
Android 8 to 10 needs a USB cable once: allow USB debugging and choose Use USB-connected phone.
scrcpy, and the Mac app around it
scrcpy is the open-source tool (Apache 2.0) that captures and controls an Android screen. On its own it is a command-line program. JH Mirror is the Mac app around that mirror: menu bar, pairing, notifications, clipboard, files, photos and the webcam. If you only want a window and you are happy in Terminal, scrcpy is excellent. If you want mirroring plus the rest of the macOS phone jobs, use JH Mirror. The wider comparison is in the best Android app for the macOS ecosystem.
How other mirroring options differ
AirDroid can show the phone screen, and its free plan limits some transfers. KDE Connect is free and open source and is strong at notifications, but it does not mirror the screen. MacDroid and OpenMTP are file tools. None of those is a full screen mirror with sound, replyable notifications and local file transfer together, at no charge.
Mirroring does not unlock the phone. JH Mirror keeps the phone awake while the mirror is open. It never stores your PIN and never bypasses the lock screen.
