Best Android app for the macOS ecosystem
JH Mirror is the best Android app for the macOS ecosystem if you want one free Mac app for the phone screen, notifications, clipboard, files, photos and the phone camera. It talks to the phone over your Wi‑Fi. There is no account and no paid tier.
What the macOS ecosystem means for an Android phone
On an iPhone, the Mac already knows the phone. You copy on one and paste on the other. Alerts show up on the Mac. Photos and files move without a cable. The phone can be the webcam. That set of everyday jobs is what people mean by the macOS ecosystem.
Android does not get those from Apple. The useful test of an Android app for macOS is whether it covers that set, on the local network, without uploading your phone to someone else's server.
- Clipboard. Copy text or an image on the phone, then press ⌘V on the Mac. Sensitive copies, such as passwords, are skipped.
- Notifications. Phone alerts become Mac notifications, with Reply, Mark as read and Dismiss.
- Files. Browse the phone's shared folders and drag files both ways. Each transfer is checked with SHA‑256.
- Photos, video and audio. The camera roll opens in a Mac window. Originals are not recompressed.
- Screen. The phone sits in a window with keyboard, trackpad and sound. See Android mirroring for macOS.
- Camera. On Android 12 and newer, the phone camera and mic can be the Mac webcam. Video is not recorded.
Why one app beats a pile of utilities
Most Android-to-Mac tools do one of those jobs. A file app does not show notifications. A notification app does not mirror the screen. A yearly subscription often sits on top. JH Mirror is built as the whole set, and both the Mac app and the phone app are open source, so you can read what they do.
Microsoft Phone Link, the app many people already know, runs on Windows. It is not a macOS app. On a Mac the comparison is with tools such as KDE Connect, AirDroid Personal, MacDroid and OpenMTP. JH Mirror is the one in that group that does screen, sound, notifications with reply, clipboard, files both ways and the webcam, for free.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon, on macOS 26
- An Android phone on 11 or newer, on the same Wi‑Fi (Android 8 to 10 can connect with a USB cable)
- No account, and nothing to install by hand on the phone after you scan the pairing code
The first launch may need one confirmation in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, because JH Mirror is not on the App Store yet.
What it does not pretend to be
It does not put your phone in iCloud, and it does not turn Android messages into iMessage. It does not need a cloud account because the Mac and the phone talk to each other. Unpair the Mac in Wireless debugging and uninstall the phone app, and that access ends.
